New Facebook Page Layout – Is it a Flashback, But Better?

Facebook rolled out their NEW Page Layout this week to a select few users. I was fortunate enough to be one of the first. What I noticed was it was more of a time warp back to Facebook from 5+ years ago. Here’s what I mean!Facebook-2011-2016

Quick Recap of the New Facebook Page Layout

  • Profile picture no longer takes up valuable real estate covering the cover image. LOVE this!
  • Page Name under the profile picture. LOVE this!
  • Page name and the profile picture no longer take up valuable space on the cover photo. LOVE This!
  • The CTA is much larger than before and it’s on the right-hand side. LOVE this!
  • Tabs are back on the left side of the page, under the profile picture. Don’t really love this, yet!

New Facebook Page Layout

On the Right Side:

In the new Facebook page layout, most of the components that were formerly on the left side of the page now appear on the lower right-hand side:

  • About
  • Share Your Opinion
  • Apps – See Photo Below
  • Videos – Should be higher
  • Photos
  • Posts by Visitors – Virtually impossible to find!

The Apps are now on the lower right side of the page. You need to scroll down a fair amount to get there. We’ll see how this plays out. Not sure I love it yet.

The “This Week” section is back to a square on the upper right-hand corner instead of the long rectangular box to the right of your fan page – See the image on the top of the page note the pink square.

What is the first thing you need to do with the NEW Facebook Page Layout?

Go to the lower left column and “Manage” your tabs. Change the order to make sure the most compelling tabs are first.

More News from Facebook This Week: Algorithm Update

Facebook announced this week that they are updating their algorithm so that we start seeing more babies and friends and fewer business posts – Building a Better News Feed:

“The goal of News Feed is to show people the stories that are most relevant to them. Today, we’re announcing an update to News Feed that helps you see more posts from your friends and family.”

Adam Mosseri

WHY is this great for marketers? IF you are seeing more from your friends you will, like me, see more about your friend’s businesses! I always know when Facebook has rolled out Algorithm changes because I start seeing my Facebook Friends businesses! This is a very good thing!

Marketers, look at the bright side, this is a wonderful opportunity for you!

People buy from PEOPLE and not businesses. Facebook get’s it and they are working hard to make sure that people do buy from people and the businesses who show their human side will be far more engaging and their posts will show up more frequently in customers news feeds or you can pay for Facebook ads, but that’s another blog for another day.

Here’s my Take on the New Facebook Page Layout:

The new layout offers marketers a wealth of new and dynamic ways to reach out to your customer base and to engage with new potential customers! Many of us are familiar with this layout because it’s similar to Facebook back in the 2009 – 2010 time frame.

For those of us who have been marketing with Facebook since the beginning we’ve seen this layout before and are ready to make lemonade from lemons. And, As Facebook has proven once again, everything old is new again! ENJOY!

Over to You:

If you don’t already have the new layout and you have questions, post them in the comments below or ask them on Guild West’s Facebook page:

    Hi Heidi,

Great recap of the new Facebook changes, Heidi. I still don’t have it, but when I do, I will be referring back to your post.

It is amazing how similar the new looks like the old. You said it well… I’m ready to make lemonade out of lemons 🙂

    Thanks for the inside scoop!

I am curious about what the new layout will look like on mobile. Can you screenshot or share what it will look like? Also, I’d love to know the new dimensions for the photo areas.

Lisa, I’m happy to share the mobile version (screenshot) yet there is actually NO difference between the old and the new. Let me know if you’d still like a screenshot and I’m happy to send it to you. Thanks for your comment! ~Heidi
